{Dr. Carolane Williams}
WELCOME to Baltimore City Community College and thank you for selecting us as your institution of higher learning. By attending a community college, you join millions of others who have made the decision to avail themselves of quality educational opportunities that are both accessible and affordable.
Community colleges play a major role in stimulating the national economy and in American higher education. And, according to President Obama, their importance is growing. The American Association of Community Colleges reports that approximately 12 million credit and noncredit students attend community colleges. Did you know this represents 44 percent of all U.S. college and university undergraduates? The Maryland Association of Community Colleges reports that 61 percent of Maryland high school graduates who go to Maryland colleges and universities in the fall attend community colleges. Indeed, community colleges are an important vehicle for accomplishing your goals and achieving your dreams. The reason I can say this is because I too am a proud graduate of a community college!!!
For more than 62 years, Baltimore City Community College has served as a gateway to higher education. We have graduated more than 30,000 students and counting. As the only community college in the city of Baltimore and the only State-sponsored community college in Maryland, we enroll more Baltimore City residents as undergraduates than any other college or university in the state.
This is an exciting year for the College. Through various initiatives we are redefining and expanding learning opportunities across Baltimore. For instance, we have opened the new BCCC Life Sciences Institute (LSI) in the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) BioPark. This state-of-the-art facility will expose students to some of the world’s leading bioscience firms where they will be educated and trained on the latest, cutting edge theories and technologies in the biosciences. In addition, the College’s new Maryland Center for Construction Technologies (MCCT) on the city’s east side will serve as the site for students wishing to pursue careers in the construction industry such as electrical, plumbing, apprenticeship or construction management and supervision. BCCC is also one of five Weatherization Hubs in the state offering energy related training programs.
Whether you have attended BCCC before or you have just started, we stand ready and willing to partner with you on your journey for success. If you have any questions, you may find additional information on our website, www.bccc.edu, or contact us at 410-462-8300.
Sincerely,
Carolane Williams, Ph.D. BCCC President |
