Position:
Assistant Professor, Surgical Technology
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree
required. Master's degree preferred.
-
At least two
years of peri-operative experience practicing in a hospital setting
preferred.

Current
certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist.
-
Excellent verbal
and written skills.
-
Computer literacy
experience working with personal computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
-
Commitment to the
philosophy of the community college.
-
Work experience
in a multi-cultural environment.
-
Previous teaching
experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
-
Teach 15 credits each Fall
and Spring semester for a total of 30 credits for the academic year.
-
Provide classroom, lab
and/or clinical instruction for surgical technology.
-
Collaborate with the Program
Coordinator to assure consistency of instruction.
-
Initiates and carries
through with improvements to course contents and methods.
-
Serve as student advisor.
-
Assist the Program
Coordinator with the development, implementation, and evaluation of the
Program as related to its goals and objectives.
-
Revise curriculum to reflect
an employer's expectations for entry level practitioners.
-
Assist in maintaining
appropriate inventory of surgical supplies for laboratory instruction.
-
Assist in identifying
adjunct faculty.
-
Promote the program to both
prospective students and prospective employers.
-
Develop relationships with
healthcare facilities; assure timely completion of clinical supervisor
and employer surveys.
-
Faculty members also have
professional responsibilities which may include orientation and
registration of students, participation in College committees, keeping
regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for
students), and participate in traditional functions which have academic
significance.

Schedule and coordinate
student rotations at the various intern or cooperative learning sites.

Participate actively on the
Program's Advisory Board.

Grade and return student
assignments and tests in a reasonable period of time.

Prepare complete course
outlines and syllabi.
-
Continually revise and
update course content and materials of instructions as needed.
Coordinates course contents and methods with other teachers in the
program/discipline.

Meet and assist students
during office hours by appointment or at other reasonable times.
