Position:
Payroll Coordinator
General Description:
The Payroll Coordinator is
responsible for managing the daily operations of the Payroll office and
ensuring payment to College employees in compliance with State
regulations. The Payroll Coordinator will oversee the office operations
to ensure quality customer service, the successful delivery of assigned
payroll functions and supervision of departmental personnel; including
oversight for payment to 1,800 employees on a bi-weekly payroll cycle in
a higher education setting.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree
from an accredited university in accounting or finance.

A minimum
of 6 years experience in a supervisory/ management capacity.
OR
-
3 years
supervisor/managerial skills with a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
certification and 5 years progressive, relevant work experience in a
large payroll processing environment.

Certified Payroll
Professional designation desirable.

Extensive
knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint,
Access).

Knowledge of the
State of Maryland Financial Management Information System (FMIS)
preferred.

Ability to
effectively communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with College
administration, staff, faculty, and students as well as external
contacts.

Excellent planning,
organizational, and coordination skills commensurate with oversight and
evaluation responsibilities for business and fiscal functions.

Experience working with
automated payroll systems including payroll preparation, verification,
maintenance, and reporting.
Responsibilities:
-
Oversee all Payroll office functions including hiring, training and
developing staff.

Manage the weekly payroll
submission to the Maryland State Central Payroll Bureau (CPB) and the
weekly operations to ensure accurate and timely payment to College
employees in compliance with State regulations.

Maintain strong internal
controls to ensure compliance with regulations; responsible for all
payroll audit information, prepare audit schedules, work with internal
and external auditors.

Ensure compliance with all
regulatory agencies; maintain confidentiality of all payroll
information.

Develop annual payroll
schedules in compliance with CPB for dissemination to the College
community;
maintain payroll schedule and payroll calendars.

Submit State and Federal payroll guidelines to the Director of Finance
for dissemination to the College community; ensure compliance with
State, Federal, and College regulations and/or procedures.

High level of management
skills with a proven ability to lead a diverse workforce.

Display excellent employee development and performance management skills
with the ability to develop, support, motivate, and supervise
professional and administrative staff to perform as an effective team to
accomplish divisional goals in support of the College strategic plan.
This
