Nursing Program Outcomes

Students are expected to learn the following within the Nursing program:

  1. Safe and Effective Care
    • Provide and direct nursing care.
    • Protect clients and other health care personnel from health and environmental hazards.

  2. Health Promotion and Maintenance
    • Provide direct nursing care of the client, family, and significant others that incorporates the knowledge of expected growth and development principles; prevention and early detection of health problems and strategies to achieve optimal health.

  3. Psychosocial Integrity
    • Provide and direct nursing care that promotes and supports the emotional, mental, and social wellbeing of the client, family, and significant others experiencing stressful events, as well as clients with acute or chronic mental illness.

  4. Physiological Integrity
    • Provide comfort and assistance in the performance of activities of daily living.
    • Provide care related to the administration of medications and parenteral therapies.
    • Reduce the likelihood that the client will develop complications or health problems related to existing conditions, treatments, or procedures.
    • Manage and provide care for clients with acute, chronic, or life-threatening physical health conditions.

  5. Interpersonal Interaction
    • Communicate effectively with individuals, families, groups, and populations.
    • Identify common barriers in active involvement of clients in their own healthcare processes.
    • Demonstrate the ability to clearly and accurately convey information to selected members of the healthcare team.
    • Establish a therapeutic nurse-client relationship with clients from diverse populations in a clinical setting.

  6. Informational and Technological Literacy
    • Use technology to gather information for evidence based care.
    • Evaluate the credibility of sources of information, including but not limited to databases and Internet resources.

  7. Professionalism
    • Identify and implement care practices that are considered safe, legal, and ethical.
    • Explain the importance of and processes for professional development.
