Library of Congress Classification System

Sometimes students just want to browse the shelves to find the books they need. You can use this guide to the Library of Congress Classification System to help you go to the correct shelves. All the books on the BCCC Library shelves are given a Library of Congress Call Number. The call number is determined by the type of book it is. For example, books about music will be shelved in the M-section. Books on Political Science are in the J-section. Some categories are so large, they are given an additional letter to help users find the books on the shelves.   Notice that Literature is given the letter P. If you were looking for Children's Literature books, you can click on the P - Language and Literature  link below to see the sub groupings. There you will find that Children's Literature is in the PZ section.
