Business and Finance News:

Fiscal Year End Deadlines

In preparation for the end of the fiscal year, please note and adhere to the following deadlines:

 

April 1: Cutoff date for FY14 requisition submission for Procurement over $25,000

April 25: Report the status of all open purchase orders to Accounts Payable. You must report whether or not PO’s should remain open or be closed. The default will be to close them at year end if no written notification has been made otherwise.

May 1: Begin submitting FY15 requisitions to the Procurement Office

May 23: Final request for any requisitions using FY14 funding, providing all backup documentation are included

June 6: Submit travel reimbursements for payment in FY14 to Accounts Payable. If travel is in June, then submit by July 3.

June 6: Submit spring tuition reimbursement requests to Accounts Payable

June 10: CPC holders must submit May 2014 CPC statements with original receipts to the Procurement Office

July 10: CPC holders must submit June 2014 CPC statements with original receipts to the Procurement Office

 

Checks Received

According to the College’s Cash Management Procedures, any checks made out to Baltimore City Community College must be given to General Accounting for processing. Please do not bring any checks to the Cashier’s window. Failure to comply with established procedures may result in an audit finding for the College. If you have any questions, please contact the General Accounting/Bursar’s Office.

Encourage them to attend the Starting Your Own Business workshop today, March 24 from noon to 2 p.m. in Room 310 of the Main Building. Attendees will learn how to start and operate a successful business in Maryland.

 

Coming Later This Month: Black Men Speak Conference

The 4A Program will host its first Black Men Speak” conference

Thursday, March 27 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre. Come hear panelists speak about topics ranging from fatherhood, spirituality and black men’s roles in the family to media’s perception of black men, sports and civic responsibility. Click here to learn more.

Reminder: The Liberty bookstore will be closed Wednesday, March 26 and Thursday, March 27 for inventory.

 


 

The Garífuna Hospital in Honduras

Learn about the story behind the first free and holistic health care system on Honduras’ Caribbean coast Friday, March 28 during the Revolutionary Medicine: A Story of the First Garífuna Hospital presentation at 7:15 p.m. in the Gaare Auditorium. The hospital – the first to be established in Afro-Indigenous Garífuna communities, stands as an alternative to the increasingly privatized national health system. Built, administered and defended by the communities it serves, the hospital has become a symbol of Garífuna self-determination. Learn more about the hospital and its story and hear how you can make a difference. This event is being sponsored by the Anthropology and Sociology Club (ASC), the History Club, Office of Student Life and SGA.

 

The event will be preceded by a drumming workshop with the Lumalali Garífuna drummers from 6 to 6 p.m. in the Mini Conference Center. Both events are free and open to the public.

Open Gym:

Now Available

Now that the men’s and women’s basketball seasons have come to an end, interested faculty, staff and students are encouraged to take advantage of the Open Gym starting next week.

 

Open Gym will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays.

 

Requirements for Open Gym usage:

·         Currently enrolled in classes

·         Student/Staff ID

·         Proper attire (court shoes – no boots permitted)

·         Remain respectful and refrain from the use of profanity

·         Sign the Sign-In sheet

 


 

BCCC Math Awareness Week: April 2-9

Did you know? April is Math Awareness Month! Help celebrate by taking part in the Mathematics & Engineering Department’s Math Awareness Week April 2-9. Activities will include the sixth annual Math Fair, Wednesday, April 9 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Mini Conference Center. Students interested in participating in the poster presentation must complete the team registration form and submit it to mgleger@bccc.edu or Mr. Pierce or Professor Saunders in room 168 of the Main Building no later than tomorrow, March 20. Want to add iPads to your class experience, but unsure of where to start?
Click here to access a guide created by the E-Learning Department for ideas of how to use iPads with your students. Learn more about different apps and how you can use them to make your course interactive and exciting.

The first ten faculty to contact the E-Learning Department will have the opportunity to borrow an iPad for a week to learn more about how it works and how to incorporate it into their students’ learning.

Life Sciences Building Update: Fourth Floor Now Open

The fourth floor labs of the Life Sciences Building are now open. All students should go to the fourth floor for their scheduled labs. Biology 102 lab students should go to Room 409.

Please remember that there is no parking permitted under the LSB during construction. Those who park there will be ticketed and towed immediately!

 


 

Tell Your Students: Legendary Academy Info Sessions

Are any of your students looking for a job? Be sure to tell them about the Legendary Academy, a two-day class designed to provide further information about the Horseshoe Casino opening in Baltimore later this year. Six sessions will be held through April. This class will teach attendees more about the Horseshoe Casino brand, hiring requirements and current job opportunities available. Those who attend the Legendary Academy will receive special hiring consideration.
