Free Income Tax Assistance from BCCC Accounting Students
BCCC Accounting students, under the guidance of Professor
Brian R. Lazarus, CPA, Accounting Program Coordinator, are participating
in the IRS sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for
the first time.
The program requires students to pass multiple exams
administered by the IRS before they are deemed qualified to prepare
Income Tax returns to eligible members of the community free of charge.
Professor Lazarus has pioneered the integration of VITA as an
integral component of his Income Tax Accounting class and students are
required to provide a minimum of 20 hours of income tax assistance. This
VITA program is conducted in collaboration with the Department of
Accounting at Coppin University.

“Free Yourself” with the Smoking Cessation Program
Student Support and Wellness Services, in conjunction with the Black Mental
Health Alliance for Education and Consultation, Inc., will present the
“Free Yourself” anti-smoking program. The free group smoking cessation
classes will be held on Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m. on the first floor of
the South Pavilion.

on April 17 and April 24. Attendees will have access to individual
counseling, support groups and patches. Both staff and students trying to

Allied Health Mixer: This Afternoon!
The School of Allied Health and Nursing, in conjunction with the Promise
Academy, will present the first Allied Health Mixer today, April

The 5th Annual QUEST Conference will convene today, April
10 and tomorrow, April 11 in the Mini Conference Center. The keynote
speakers are Dr. Marvin Cheatham, Sr., candidate for the Maryland House of
Delegates 40th District, and Mr. Damion Cooper, director of Neighborhood
Relations for the Baltimore City Council. The conference will run each day
from 8 a.m. to 2:20 p.m.

Tomorrow: Dental Hygiene’s Zumbathon Fundraiser
Freshmen Class of 2015 will host a two-hour Zumbathon Extravaganza tomorrow,
April 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Physical Education Center. This
event will feature raffles, refreshments and Zumba dance instructors Mona
Khacho, Stephanie Scott and Denere Hilton. Entry is $5, or $4 with a BCCC
ID. Come out and show your support!

consider submitting your course for the Quality Matters (QM) review.
The advantages for having
your online or hybrid course QM recognized are:

quality online/hybrid course
- Middle States commendations for maintaining online
offerings of high quality
- Creating a culture of excellence in the Academic
- Having your course acknowledged on the QM website

hybrid course QM recognized and timeline.

- Enroll and complete successfully the two-week
course called Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR). The
course is free for all attendees (a $25 per person technology fee will

The Department of Budget and Management has announced its approval for FY14
employee health holidays during the month of April. Bi-weekly employees
will receive two health holidays. No health deductions (dental, medical and
prescription) will be taken from regular employee paychecks for these
health holidays on April 9 and April 23.

In preparation for the end of the fiscal
year, please note and adhere to the following deadlines:

Life Sciences Building Update: Fourth Floor Now Open
fourth floor labs of the Life Sciences Building are now open. All students
should go to the fourth floor for their scheduled labs. Biology 102 lab
students should go to Room 409.
