Adult Basic Education
The BCCC Adult Basic Education (ABE) Department housed within the Business and Continuing Education Division (BCED) is a leader in helping adults achieve functional literacy and important life skills, and is the largest provider of literacy services in Baltimore City. By combining modern teaching technologies and a caring, committed, and innovative professional staff, the department has achieved notable success in helping adults learn. Courses are either free or affordable, and can be customized for businesses, government agencies, nonprofits, schools, churches, and community organizations either onsite, or at the downtown Harbor Campus, Liberty Campus, or Reisterstown Plaza Center.
The Business and Continuing Education Division offers four interrelated programs to individuals and employee groups: basic literacy, basic skills (Pre-GED® preparation), GED® preparation, and an alternative diploma options program. ABE classes provide classroom instruction in basic reading, writing, and math, as well as basic life skills. Courses are free and are offered to adults on campus and at more than 30 sites throughout Baltimore City.
