Surgical Technologist Program Outcomes
The mission of the Surgical Technology Program at
Baltimore City Community College is to provide students with comprehensive
learning experiences encompassing the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor
(skills), and affective (behavior), domains necessary to perform as competent
entry level Surgical Technologist while serving the needs of the
In order to prepare competent entry-level surgical technologists in the cognitive (knowledge), psycho-motor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains, each student will accomplish the following:
- Human Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology: Incorporate knowledge of human anatomy
and physiology as it relates to surgical procedures performed.
Asepsis, Sterility and Decontamination: Utilize the principles of aseptic technique. Students must apply appropriate methods of decontamination and sterilization.
Preoperative Preparation: Demonstrate preoperative preparation of the surgical suite; as well as, the preoperative preparation of him/herself. (Psychomotor)
- Surgical Case management: Demonstrate the ability to function in the perioperative setting.Identify specialized roles, as well as, moral, legal and ethical responsibilities to the patient; all while performing duties of a surgical technologist in a perioperative setting. (Affective)
- Emergent Situations: Students shall be able to identify emergent situations and be able to act instinctively. (Cognitive)
