BCCC has enrolled its first cohort of students in the Year Up program, a one-year intensive technical and professional skills development experience serving predominantly low-income 18 to 24 year-olds who have a high school diploma or GED. Young adults will receive six months of college credited skills at BCCC and a six-month internship with a major corporation (including Johns Hopkins, T. Rowe Price, Morgan Stanley, Constellation Energy and Bechtel).
The program, founded in Boston, is up and running in eight urban areas across the nation. Baltimore’s is the first college-based Year Up pilot. As part of their mutual interest in spurring college credit and degree completion, Year Up and BCCC have agreed to ensure participating students will be dually enrolled in their programs and receive college-level credits and skills preparation.
