The Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) Arts and Sciences Transfer Program is designed for students wishing to obtain a strong liberal arts foundation before transferring to a bachelor’s degree program, with the option to continue on to graduate or professional studies. Transfer programs in mathematics and science culminate in an associate’s degree.

Science

Students in the Science Program will develop scientific literacy and understanding, reasoning, problem solving and research skills.

• Analyze the relationship between structure and function in chemistry, biology and physics.
• Employ scientific methods in the development of research in chemistry, biology and physics.
• Critically analyze/use the data obtained from scientific method in chemistry, biology and physics.

• Determine the past or future state of a system using physical principals.
• Apply knowledge of biological principles to organisms and their relationship to the environment.
• Access and search scientific databases.
• Analyze scientific materials for relevance and accuracy.
• Summarize and communicate scientific information in a scientific format.
• Create and interpret graphic representations of scientific data.

Students in these fields can qualify for a wide range of occupations. Mathematics graduates can opt for careers as mathematicians, statisticians, and actuaries, school math specialist, to name a few. Science graduates can specialize in any scientific discipline, conduct research or apply to medical school.

• A microbiologist who holds a master’s degree can start on a salary of $64,225. The median income for microbiologists is $97,925.

Always check with an advisor to determine what courses to take. All BCCC students must meet the College’s computer literacy requirement in order to receive a degree or certificate. All students are required to complete the PRE 100 course within the first six credits. PRE 100 is an academic achievement preparation course earning one credit.
