Elementary Education/Generic Special Education-PreK-12, AAT
This Associate of Arts in Teaching (A.A.T.) degree prepares students to transfer to an elementary education or generic special education program at a four-year college or university in the state of Maryland. Upon completion of the A.A.T. degree, students are eligible to be admitted as an elementary education or generic special education major at their Maryland transfer institution.
Upon completion of this program, students may apply for a State License to work as a Paraprofessional in Local State Educational Agencies. Paraprofessional/Teacher Assistants perform duties that are instructional in nature or deliver direct services to students or parents. Teacher assistants work under a teacher’s supervision to give students additional attention and instruction. Students may also transfer to a four-year institution to complete the required BA course work for teacher certification.

Suggested Sequence of Courses
Every degree-seeking student must complete the College’s General Education Requirements in addition to the academic program requirements. Through the College’s General Education Requirements, students acquire basic knowledge of the disciplines in the areas of arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, biological and physical sciences, mathematics, English composition, and computer literacy.
