English Language Instruction

English Language Instruction (ELI) offers a comprehensive language study program for English language learners seeking to improve their skills for academic success, professional advancement, and general enrichment.

ELI courses (ELI 80 - 82 Intermediate - Advanced) prepare students to enter academic major programs at BCCC by developing necessary academic skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, speaking, and grammar.

Courses are taught by ESOL-trained instructors who concentrate on getting students ready for successful participation in U.S. higher education opportunities.

ELI courses are offered during Fall (August - December), Spring (January - May) and a Summer Bridge

Enrollment steps for new ELI students:

  1. Students complete the college application and, if eligible for in-state tuition rates, a Residency Verification form.
  2. All new ELI students take the ACCUPLACER-ESL test to determine placement level.  Students must place at Intermediate (ELI 80) level at least to enroll in ELI courses.  ACCUPLACER ESL Sample Questions
  3. Students meet with an ELI advisor to select courses and register.
