English Language Instruction
English Language Instruction (ELI) offers a comprehensive language study program for English language learners seeking to improve their skills for academic success, professional advancement, and general enrichment.
ELI courses (ELI 80 - 82 Intermediate - Advanced) prepare students to enter academic major programs at BCCC by developing necessary academic skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, speaking, and grammar.
Courses are taught by ESOL-trained instructors who concentrate on getting students ready for successful participation in U.S. higher education opportunities.
ELI courses are offered during Fall (August - December), Spring (January - May) and a Summer Bridge
Enrollment steps for new ELI students:
- Students complete the college application and, if eligible for in-state tuition rates, a Residency Verification form.
- All new ELI students take the ACCUPLACER-ESL test to determine placement level. Students must place at Intermediate (ELI 80) level at least to enroll in ELI courses. ACCUPLACER ESL Sample Questions
- Students meet with an ELI advisor to select courses and register.

International Students
BCCC issues I-20s to eligible persons for International Students status (F-1 visa). International Students may enroll in ELI courses to satisfy their full-time study requirement. For enrollment steps and deadlines, see the International Students Office.
