developmental education, Dr. Hunter Boylan, at the Developmental Education
Association of Maryland Annual Conference May 2.

Using Learning Styles and Cooperative Learning to Develop Effective
Boylan is director of the National Center for Developmental Education
(NCDE) and a professor of Higher Education at Appalachian State University.
He is widely sought after as a consultant and speaker on developmental
education and has worked with BCCC. He is frequently quoted in the national

Services has recently worked on the following projects:

client-users a timeline for the next couple of weeks as the Voice over IP
(VoIP) system replaces the traditional PBX switch. The target date

preparatory work of documenting our business processes (baseline was
started in 2009) and the creation of the final Systems RFP. Several
projects, as approved by the IT Advisory
(ITAC) and ERP Working Groups will move forward, namely; Identity
Management to address compliance issues with using personally identifiable
information for login and authentication. Document Imaging will move ahead if compatible with any future/potential
ERP systems. The College is awaiting
state “approval to proceed” as the ERP next step to staff the Project
Management Office (PMO) and officially start the prep work.
Portal log-on – A recent upgrade to the Faculty portal eliminates the
four-digit PIN. The Enterprise Applications Group of programmers worked
with the user clients by providing specifications, testing, documentation
and training for a successful implementation. Faculty and authorized staff
can log on to the faculty portal with their network name and password
instead of the PIN code. This helps keeps systems more secure and in
compliance with legislative audit exceptions on password complexity. The
student portal would also benefit from a similar upgrade and is under

Alert Your Students: Low-Cost Quality Child Care
Clarence W. Blount Child Development Center is now enrolling for summer
CCAMPIS (Child Care Access Means Parents in School) scholarships. The
College offers an infant-toddler and pre-school room program (six months -
five years) and an evening aftercare program starting in the fall (ages 5 –
CCAMPIS is available to students who are eligible to receive the Pell Grant
and unable to afford the full cost of quality child care. Students
receiving child care subsidy from the State of Maryland are not eligible
for participation in the grant program, though there are sliding scale fees
available. The deadline to enroll in the evening program is August 11. See

Internet Explorer Update
recently published Security Bulletin MS14-021, a
security update for the recent Internet Explorer (IE) problem, for all versions of IE and for use with
Windows XP, which is no longer a supported Operating System (OS).

to do anything - it was updated automatically. All LAN-connected PC systems
should be updated and any laptops that have not connected to the network
recently will need to process all windows updates to be secure.

browsers to include Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. These will be
