Labor Day Holiday Advance Payroll Processing
State offices will be closed Friday, Aug. 29 and the state Labor Day
holiday occurs Monday, Sept. 1. Payroll processing will therefore be
advanced for the pay period ending Saturday, Aug. 23. All PIN
timesheets are due in the payroll office by 3 p.m. today; contractual timesheets are due by
3 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday,

cash for permits can do so by visiting the ID Booth located on the ground
floor of the Main Building next to the Cashier. Remember to pay for
the parking permit at the Cashier prior to coming to the ID Booth.
Come to the Mini Conference Center Friday, Sept. 5
for “Understanding Your Paycheck”

Mini Conference Center to celebrate National Payroll Week. The theme of
the day’s get-together is Understanding Your Paycheck. BCCC employees
will earn up to one hour of professional development credit for
attending. Learn to navigate the Maryland POSC (Payroll Online Service
Center) and talk to company representatives from M&T Bank, SECU,
LegalShield and Nationwide, among others. Enjoy refreshments, giveaways
and a raffle!

payroll professionals who pay them. Together, through the payroll
withholding system, they contribute, collect, report and deposit
approximately $1.97 trillion, or 68.9 percent, of the annual revenue of
the U.S. Treasury.

Professor Vance Conducts Sponsored Lecture Tour
Professor Jà Hon Vance received
sponsorship for a lecture workshop tour using the Quest Learning Model
and Vance Theory Concept which he developed to help raise the success of
African-American males who have struggled with their education. Professor
Vance presented the workshops Aug. 9-13 in the areas of Detroit and
Pontiac, Mich., Merrillville, Ind. and Windsor,
Ontario. The sponsoring organizations were Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Delta Sigma Theta and JV
Educational Consultants LLC.
Dr. Edna Street-Jones Honored for
Service on State Commission
July, Dr. Edna Street-Jones, faculty member in the Dental Hygiene
Program, was honored for serving two consecutive terms as a dentist
member of the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners. Dr. Street-Jones
was appointed to the position by Gov. Martin O’Malley in 2007. She was
only the second African American woman dentist to serve on this Maryland
state board in its 130 years of existence, and the first African American
woman to serve as Secretary/Treasurer of the board.

Church in East Baltimore.
the BCCC team demonstrated the importance of oral health including proper
brushing, flossing and oral cancer screenings. As part of the event, the
BCCC students were able to explain how good oral health is linked to the
well-being of the entire body. Church parishioners and local participants
– surprised enough at the information they received – were delighted to
receive toothbrushes, floss and toothpaste.

Parking During the Aug. 4-23 Registration Period

ITS Announces New Email Security Feature
collaborative efforts of Adeniyi Olunuga, Kennedy Franco and Thad Berry,
the ITS Network and Systems team proudly announces the addition of a new
email security appliance. Begun Friday, July 25, unwanted messages
are now being blocked at a significantly higher
rate with user-accessible quarantines for retrieving unnecessarily
blocked inbound mail.

engineering technology. He left with a job as a high-speed train
technician at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. He is

Clarence W. Blount Child Development Center is now enrolling for summer
CCAMPIS (Child Care Access Means Parents in School) scholarships. The
College offers an infant-toddler and pre-school room program (6 months-5
years) and an evening aftercare program starting in the fall (ages 5-12).

Contract Processing, HR Working to Improve Life
for Contractual Employees
Contract Processing and HR Offices are working together to improve the
hiring and payment process for contract employees. The goal is to ensure
fair employment practices and consistency in the recruitment
and selection of BCCC contractual and temporary agency employees. When
submitting your contract requests to Tonya Anderson, please make sure of
