Adult Basic Education
The BCCC Adult Basic Education (ABE) Department housed within the Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division is a leader in helping adults achieve functional literacy and important life skills, and is the largest provider of literacy services in Baltimore City. By combining modern teaching technologies and a committed and innovative professional staff, the department has achieved notable success in helping adults learn. Courses are either affordable or at no cost and can be customized for businesses, government agencies, nonprofits, schools, churches, and community organizations either onsite, or at the downtown Harbor Campus, Liberty Campus, or Reisterstown Plaza Center.
The Adult Basic Education Department offers six course levels from basic literacy to GED® test preparation, as well as alternative diploma options programs.
Adult Basic Education/GED® Test Preparation
ABE/GED® Test Prep classes provide classroom instruction in basic reading, writing, and math, as well as basic life skills. Courses are offered to adults on campus and at more than 30 sites throughout Baltimore City.
For entry into ABE/GED® Test Preparation classes, come to 710 E. Lombard St., Room 61, to take a three-hour assessment.
Monday, Wednesday 8 a.m. — 5 p.m.
Tuesday, Thursday 8 a.m. — 8:30 p.m.
Friday 8 a.m. — 2 p.m.
The BCCC ABE /GED testing center is conveniently located at the Shot Tower/Market Place Metro Subway Station and is on bus line route #10. No appointment is needed for testing. The testing center is located on the first floor of the Harbor Park Garage next to Port Discovery. Parking is not validated.
Assessment testing is also offered at the Reisterstown Plaza Center, 6764A Reisterstown Rd., 21205 (Back of Reisterstown Plaza):
