Academic Advice & Assistance

All program participants, except those in special admission academic programs, meet regularly with their TRIO SSS advisor for academic advising.

Academic Tutoring

Tutoring services are available for all program participants through the Center for Academic Achievement. Tutors can help participants master the fundamentals of their coursework and enhance their academic performance, especially in mathematics, English, and the sciences.

Grant Aid is provided by the U.S. Department of Education to support the educational pursuits of eligible SSS participants at Baltimore City Community College.

Financial Aid Information and Assistance

Program participants receive assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) and are advised to participate in “Financial Aid Awareness” workshops organized by the Office of Financial Aid. The workshops provide information on the full range of federal student financial aid programs and Pell grant regulation changes. Information on public and private scholarships can be found on the TRIO SSS Canvas webpage.

Financial & Economic Literacy Workshops

Workshops about money management, understanding credit, paying for college, and similar topics are provided to improve the financial and economic literacy of participants.

Peer Mentoring & Leadership Development

Participants are paired with peer mentors who will engage them through a variety of activities to motivate and enhance a sense of belonging and assist in navigating college resources. Training is provided for students who have at least 30 credits and a minimum 2.7 GPA and wish to become peer mentors.
