    Program Description

    ACBSP Accredited The Accounting Program at Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) prepares graduates for employment as junior accountants, accounting clerks or management trainees. Additionally, to prepare students for advanced academic studies as well as for careers in public accounting, private industry, government and non- profit sectors. The accounting certificate is designed for individuals seeking entry-level employment in bookkeeping or accounting. The program will promote personal and professional development of each student by offering and encouraging participation in various opportunities.

    Additionally, through utilization of interactive teaching techniques and instructional methods to accommodate diversified learning styles, we will develop critical thinking, analytical, communication and technological skills that will enable out graduates to make immediate, value added contributions to their employers and communities.

    The accounting degree program is accredited by Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

    Job Description 

    A typical Accounting/ Assistant/Bookkeeper ‘s job responsibilities would include:

    • Journalizing transactions in the various journals including adjusting and closing entries
    • Posting to the General Ledger
    • Creating Unadjusted and Adjusted and Post Closing Trial Balances
    • Assisting in preparation of financial statements including Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss Statement
    • Conducting Bank reconciliations
    • Performing various types of reconciliations
    • Processing of vendor invoices for payment
    • Processing cash receipts from customers
    • Compiling information to assist in preparation of tax returns
    • Assisting in preparation of company payroll and generating related payroll reports

    Accounting graduates should be able to find gainful employment within a wide range of companies and industries. These include small, medium and large corporations, non- profit organizations, hospitals as well as federal, state, city and county agencies.
