ESL Pathways Program

International students who want to apply for admission to BCCC and attend on F-1 student visa status have an option to start their academic program while also studying English as a Second Language (ESL), or start immediately in their academic program, depending on students’ demonstrated English proficiency level.

To start at the academic program level, students must demonstrate English proficiency in one or more of the following ways:

  1. Submit a passport from an English-speaking country (*refer to the list below)

  2. Submit an official transcript from a US-based higher education institution with a passing grade in English Composition or completion of a bachelor’s degree or graduate coursework

  3. Submit official English proficiency placement test scores (test results must be sent directly from the test center to BCCC

ESL Pathway Program Entry Requirements

Students who enter the ESL Pathway Program can start their academic program while simultaneously completing their English proficiency at BCCC.  Students who place into the top two levels of the BCCC ESL program will enroll simultaneously in English Language Instruction courses as well as enrolling in academic courses.  Once students successfully complete the ESL Pathway Program, they will be automatically accepted into their academic program.  To receive an I-20 for that program, however, they will need to submit new financial documents (refer to Supplemental International Student Application Documents, items #3 & 4).

  1. Students must complete all other required general and supplemental international student application documents.

  2. Students must demonstrate English proficiency in one of the following placement tests (test results must be sent directly from the test center to BCCC):

Students who do not meet the English proficiency levels for admission are encouraged to discuss their options with an international student adviser. Students can email international@bccc.edu or visit the International  www.bccc.edu/international
