Mayor’s Scholar’s Program orientation
Description
The Mayor’s Scholars Program offers access to free, quality, education at Baltimore City Community College to more than 500 recently graduated students from the Baltimore City Public Schools. The Mayor’s Scholars Program is a first of its kind partnership for BCCC and Baltimore City.
BCCC now joins a distinguished list of major cities such as San Francisco, and states like Rhode Island, that offer high school graduates the opportunity for a free community college education.
The students will begin the Summer Bridge Program here at BCCC as part of the program on June 25. These students will work closely with success coaches, who will help prepare them for the rigors of college course work. During the seven-week session students will also take math and English courses.
The Summer Bridge Program is happening in collaboration with YouthWorks, Baltimore City's summer jobs program. Students who successfully complete the Summer Bridge Program will receive at $1,700 stipend.
The orientation will include a video address by the mayor, workshops on advising, academic excellence, plagiarism, financial aid, and free lunch, which will be provided to students throughout the program.
