Please make sure to search these sites carefully for the free versions of these programs.

Each piece of software will have different minimum technical requirements. Be mindful of your computer’s specifications and the requirements for each program.

    • Google Chrome: Web browser created and maintained by Google.  A good choice.
    • Mozilla Firefox: Web browser created and maintained by Mozilla. We recommend this one.
    • Acrobat Viewer: Has tools used to view, edit, and sign PDFs.  We recommend unchecking both “optional offers”.
    • Foxit Reader: An alternative PDF reader and editor.
    • Dropbox: An easy cloud storage service.  Allows you to save files and automatically back them up in the cloud.
    • One Drive:  Microsoft’s cloud storage service.
    • VLC Media Player: Used to play a variety of media files (videos, music, etc.)
    • Open Office: A freeware alternative to Microsoft Office. Used for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, database, etc.
    • Libre Office: Another freeware alternative to Microsoft Office.  Used for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases, etc.

Note that your student email account is a Gmail account and comes with Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides which can also be used as an alternative to Microsoft Office.  It also comes with a Google Drive account, which can be used to store files in the cloud.
