Baltimore, MD – Today, Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) was selected to receive a 2018 Maryland Clinical Simulation Resource Consortium (MCSRC) Equipment & Materials Award for a total of $109,833 to be granted to the college’s nursing program. The grant allows BCCC to purchase essential technologies to update its simulation labs that prepare students for their work in the nursing field after graduation.

“BCCC is honored to receive this generous award from MCSRC.  The Nursing Program is an integral component of the BCCC family and is committed to the mission of the College,” said Dr. Gordon F. May, president and CEO of BCCC. “The Practical Nursing and the Associate Degree Nursing Programs of study provide the residents of Baltimore City, particularly first-generation college students, with an opportunity to prepare for knowledge-based careers.  This award will provide additional educational resources to our hard-working faculty and nursing students, improve simulation education, and enable us to continue to provide quality, accessible, and career-based educational programs to Maryland residents which will enhance the economy of the State of Maryland.”

MCSRC is a statewide funding initiative authorized under the auspices of the Nurse Support Program II (NSP II) and jointly approved by the Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC). This program is designed to increase the quality and quantity of simulation used in nursing education. School of Nursing Deans and Directors and Hospital Chief Nursing Officers and Nurse Executives are encouraged to nominate nursing candidates, who are interested in serving as simulation leaders, for funding consideration. The program goals are to: promote the use of simulation in nursing education in Maryland, establish simulation quality guidelines that will promote patient safety, and provide resources to maintain simulation equipment for nursing programs.
