Alternative Diploma Options

In partnership with Elev8Baltimore, Inc., this is an alternative to GED® preparatory classes for adults seeking a high school diploma.

This program, known as APEX, is Internet-based and features a complete curriculum designed to meet adult learners at different ability and learning levels. As adults work at their own pace, the APEX program provides flexibility in completing the requirements for a high school diploma.

Based on a referral system, adults needing credits for a diploma can complete those courses anywhere they can access the Internet.

A Maryland high school diploma includes the following:
  • 4 units of English
  • 3 units of math
  • 2 units of science (includes biology)
  • 3 units of social studies (includes U.S. history)
  • 1⁄2 unit of health
  • 1 unit of applied arts (keyboarding/word processing)
  • 1 unit of fine arts
  • 6 1⁄2 units of electives
