High School Student Graduates From Baltimore City Community College, Receives Valedictorian Highest Honor
(MAY 20, 2021) - Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) held its 72nd Commencement virtually Sunday, May 16 and recognized Kendae Keziah Arnulf, a dually enrolled student at BCCC and Carver Vocational-Technical High School who graduated with a 4.0 Grade Point Average.
Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) student Kendae Keziah Arnulf received his 2-year college degree from BCCC and will graduate from Carver Vocational-Technical High School in June. As a student in the highly recognized P-TECH program, Kendae attended BCCC to earn his associate’s degree in Cyber Security while attending Carver to obtain his high school diploma. Kendae will intern this summer at IBM.
Kendae hopes to continue his studies at one of four Maryland 4-year institutions — Bowie State University, Frostburg State University, Johns Hopkins University or Morgan State University. “I am overjoyed I had the opportunity to attend BCCC while attending high school,” said Kendae Arulf, “Having both my diploma and associate’s degree will place me on track to finish my 4-year degree and reach my goals of helping my family and community.”
“This is a proud moment for BCCC and Baltimore. Since embarking on this partnership three years ago with Baltimore City Public Schools, the University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University and IBM, we have seen the tremendous growth and progress from our dually enrolled P-TECH students. By exposing our young people to an early college experience, it affords them a seamless pathway from high school to college and opens up opportunities for greater career exploration and a promising future,” said Dr. Debra L. McCurdy, BCCC President.
The BCCC graduating class also celebrated three other P-TECH students who attend Carver. Ryan Maultsby received his associate’s degree in Cyber Security and will attend Bowie State University in the fall. Jospeh Whitaker also earned his associate’s degree in Cyber Security. Both will be summer interns at IBM. Stovall Ilijah Dunbar earned his associate’s degree in Respiratory Care and will sit for his board certification exams this summer.
This year’s graduation class also boast students transferring to Maryland 4-year institutions — Coppin State University, Morgan State University, Towson University, UMBC, and University of Baltimore. The graduating class received 450 degrees and 153 certificates.
The streamed video, included campus and student highlights, conferring of degrees, special messages from BCCC Alumna Moses Ingram, Queen’s Gambit actress, U.S. Senator Raphael G. Warnock and Baltimore Health Commissioner Dr. Letitia Dzirasa, as well as congratulatory greetings from notable national and local dignitaries, celebrities and personalities.
