Serving Students in Baltimore City Public Schools

Baltimore City Community College offers one of only four Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) programs in the State of Maryland and has the distinction of being the only UBMS program established by a community college in the state.  Each year, the BCCC UBMS program services approximately sixty students recruited from specially targeted Baltimore City High Schools.  Eligible students live in households where parents or guardians do not have a degree at or above the bachelor’s level. The program consists of Saturday sessions, high school visits, an intensive six-week academic program, a residential program, and a college bridge program.  At the heart of the program is an academic study in science, mathematics, engineering, and biotechnology.  Additional course work in English composition, literature, computer literacy, study skills, and leadership training supplement the academic services.  Individual and group counseling on personal and academic matters and financial aid information is readily available.
