Crisis Intervention
A mental health crisis can happen to anyone, even those who don’t have an existing mental health condition. Sometimes (though not always) the person in crisis may experience self-harm impulses or suicidal ideation. In these cases, knowing how to recognize what’s happening and react appropriately can save someone’s life.

Substance Use and Abuse
Substance abuse affects one’s physical and mental health, academics, relationships, employment and many other areas of life. Opioid abuse has rapidly been on the rise, including addictions to heroin, fentanyl, and prescription opioids (Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene). Research shows that 9 percent of marijuana users develop dependence, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
