    Program Description

Over the last few decades, the drafting, design, and manufacturing industries have become heavily computerized. The Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) programs offered by BCCC are structured to prepare a segment of the workforce to compete for jobs in these industries.

The CADD Engineering Technology certificate program prepares students with the skills necessary to become engineering and architectural drafters. Students are prepared to qualify for jobs where CADD associates work as the important CADD link in the modern design process with engineers and architects on one hand and detail drafters and manufacturers on the other hand. Emphasis is on engineering drawing, architectural drawing, engineering design, and realistic 3D modeling.

Career Options and Occupation Outlook

  • Large and stable CADD job markets exist both nationwide and in the Baltimore/Washington region. Locations to obtain CADD employment include:

    • Architectural and engineering consulting businesses
    • Drafting, design and manufacturing industries
    • Engineering and architectural services companies
    • City and State transportation departments
    • State highway administrations
    • Engineering technician occupations
    • Facilities departments
    • Utility companies

Skills Needed

  • The CADD engineering technology certificate program offers a 16 credit course work that provides students’ opportunity to master conceptual and technical skills in CADD.

Skills needed in the CADD field requires experience in any/all of the following major CADD software package: AutoCAD 2D and 3D, MicroStation, Revit Architecture, AutoCAD Architecture, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, 3ds Max, Autodesk Civil 3D and ArcGIS. The courses included in the program qualify students to transfer as a junior to Bachelor of Science degree programs in engineering or architecture at four-year College or university.
