BCCC Becomes NEW CVS Health COVID-19 Testing Site

(October 13, 2020) — Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) and CVS Health announced BCCC would be a new COVID-19 testing site in West Baltimore. The COVID19, free and rapid-testing site moved from its original location at Mondawmin Mall, and will be located at the College’s South Pavilion, 2600 Liberty Heights Avenue. CVS Health had operated the testing site at the nearby mall since June, and it will now be located at BCCC until at least the end of 2020. The move was initiated to extend access of no-cost COVID-19 testing to vulnerable populations in the local community who may not otherwise have access to testing.

“BCCC and CVS Health share a vision of improving access through education and resources for Baltimore residents. We began our partnership in 2018, when CVS Health opened its mock pharmacy. We see this new collaboration as a natural transition in our work together providing access and support to our local community,” said Dr. Debra L. McCurdy, BCCC President.

This initiative builds on the ongoing partnership between Baltimore City Community College and CVS Health to increase access to health care and create meaningful employment opportunities locally.

“We have worked with Baltimore City Community College for several years to advance our shared mission of supporting workforce development, particularly in the pharmacy space,” said David Casey, Chief Diversity Officer, CVS Health. “Expanding on our work together increases our positive impact on the local community and extends our commitment to increasing access to COVID-19 testing for those who need it most and who are most at-risk.”

Testing Center Details

Testing at Baltimore City Community College, South Pavilion will be open to the public by appointment. Testing is provided at no cost and test results are given on-the-spot. Preregistration is required in advance by calling 401-318-5028 to schedule a time slot for testing. Licensed health care providers from MinuteClinic, the retail medical clinic of CVS Health, supported by CVS Pharmacy employees, will staff the testing operation. Persons can access the site by walking-in or driving to the location. To be eligible for testing, patients will need to meet criteria established by the Centers for Disease Control Prevention, in addition to age guidelines.

In 2018, CVS Health, Goodwill Industries and Baltimore City Community College came together to provide aspiring pharmacy technicians and retail associates hands-on training by establishing a mock pharmacy. The mock pharmacy allows students enrolled in training programs for certified pharmacy technicians and retail sales associates to practice skills they are learning in the classroom before entering the workforce.
