Mayor’s Scholarship Program Produces BCCC 2023 Commencement Valedictorian

Baltimore City Community College was honored to have Ms. Lilian Calan Saloj as our 2023 Commencement Valedictorian. Her impressive GPA of 3.84 is a testament to her dedication and hard work throughout her time at Baltimore City Community College.

Ms. Cala Saloj began her studies at BCCC in 2019 as a Mayor’s Scholars Program recipient. Because of the financial support the MSP program provides, Lilian was able to earn an Associates of Arts degree in General Studies. Being the first in her family to attend college, she recognizes the impact that this achievement can have on her younger siblings. She hopes that by setting an example for them, they will be inspired to dream big and pursue their own educational goals.

Her ambitions to become a commercial airline pilot are admirable, and her words of wisdom to her fellow graduates were both inspiring and practical. "Never doubt yourselves or your ability to succeed," she says, reminding graduates that they have already accomplished something great simply by completing their education. She also encouraged them to surround themselves with people who will support their goals and dreams, recognizing that success often comes from the support of others. As she looks towards her own future, this valedictorian has the drive and determination necessary to achieve whatever she sets her mind to. With these words of wisdom ringing in their ears, her fellow graduates are sure to go on to remarkable things as well.

“I am proud of Ms. Saloj’s academic excellence and excited about the path she chooses in pursuit of her dreams. I am also proud to know she began her journey here at BCCC,” President Debra L. McCurdy.
