Paul Beckham Sr., Former BCCC Dean of Continuing Education and Community Services Remembered

Paul J. Beckham Sr., a career Baltimore City Community College educator and World War II veteran, passed away Feb. 8 from cancer at Gilchrist Center Towson. The longtime Ashburton resident was 95.

“My father was an inspiration to the entire family as he instilled in us an appreciation of educations and the importance of giving back to the community,” said Paul Beckham, Jr., Director of Baltimore City Community College Foundation.

Mr. Beckham taught at Polytechnic Institute where he was the first African American faculty member. Mr. Beckham left Poly in 1970 when he was hired as assistant director of summer sessions at what is now Baltimore City Community College, where he was later named Dean of Continuing Education and Community Services.

A memorial service for Mr. Beckham will held Feb. 24 with the family hour at 1:30 p.m. at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, 2110 Madison Ave., Baltimore.

In tribute to Paul J. Beckham, Sr.’s lifelong dedication to education, we are asking for donations to The Paul J. Beckham, Sr. Scholarship Fund being established at the Baltimore City Community College Foundation in lieu of flowers.
