Award-winning author and White House correspondent April Ryan will be the keynote speaker for Baltimore City Community College’s 70th commencement on June 1.

“We are honored Ms. Ryan will share her experience, hopes, and inspiration with BCCC’s Class of 2019,” Sylvia Rochester, interim vice president of student affairs, said.

Ryan is a Baltimore native and Morgan State University graduate, and mentors aspiring journalists and up and coming broadcasters.

Ryan is one of only three African Americans to have served on the prestigious White House Correspondents Association board. She is also an esteemed member of the National Press Club.

Last year, Ryan released her third book, “Under Fire: Reporting from the Front Lines of the Trump White House,” which details how she and other correspondents are dealing with an administration that dubs the mainstream media an “enemy of the people.” Ryan has also written “The Presidency in Black and White: My Up-Close View of Three Presidents and Race in America” and “At Mama’s Knee: Mothers and Race in Black and White.”

Ryan serves as a political analyst on television programs including “Hardball” with Chris Matthews, “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and “Real Time with Bill Maher.”
