Debra L. McCurdy, PhD, Takes the Reins at Baltimore City Community College
Celebrated Community College Leader Looks to Bring Experience and Vision to BCCC
Dr. Debra L. McCurdy became the 14th president for Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) today bringing with her a new vision for the college.
“Dr. McCurdy was the clear choice to lead BCCC in a new direction. Her proven leadership and experience will rejuvenate the college and set it on a path to sustained growth and success,” Kurt Schmoke, chair of the BCCC board of trustees, said.
McCurdy replaces James H. Johnson Jr. Ph.D., who has served as interim president for the last 10 months following the retirement last July of Gordon May. May served a four-year tenure as president.
“BCCC has been an asset for Baltimore City for over 70 years. I am confident that with the executive leadership and under my direction Baltimore City Community College will continue to transform the lives of its students. As we work to provide students with the best possible preparation to meet their goals – whether through an associate degree, certificate program or job training - I know the entire college community will be inspired and set their sights on a new level of excellence,” McCurdy said.
McCurdy is a celebrated leader in higher education with more than 30 years of experience as an administrator. As president of Rhodes State College in Lima, Ohio, where she served as president for 11 years, she oversaw the transformation of the institution as it expanded its programs to include an associate of arts and associate of science degrees and successfully lead the College through its last two reaccreditation site visits.
