Welcome to the TRIO/SSS-STAIRS Program!

Dear Students:
I am delighted that you are interested in the TRIO/SSS-STAIRS program or are already a participant. Now what does STAIRS mean? It means that you are a Student Taking Action in Reaching Success.
The first step you took was enrolling at BCCC to earn a degree/certificate, transfer to a four-year college after graduation or get a better paying job. The STAIRS program works because we are committed to your success! It works for students who are willing and ready to take full responsibility for their own success. A popular Chinese proverb says “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.” Our goal is to teach you to fish.
Tutors will teach you study skills, math skills, and reading/writing skills. Our academic advisors will teach you how to select courses and fulfill your graduation and transfer requirements, provide information on Federal Student Aid programs, and assist you in identifying other public and private scholarships. You can also apply for the STAIRS book award.
You must begin on this road to success by believing that you can and will succeed. Everyone needs help sometimes, so do not be embarrassed to ask for it. Meet with your academic advisor frequently and utilize the STAIRS program services including personal counseling/coaching, peer mentoring and leadership development opportunities. There may be times when you feel like giving up. Do not quit because “persistence prevails when all else fails.”
No matter how long it takes you to get it, when you finally do, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you can and increase your self-confidence in the process. We are serious about your success. Come and let us work together so you can learn to fish. It is Your Move!If you have any questions, please call us at 410-462-8396 or email ncomas@bccc.edu
Sincerely,
Tope Aje
